A modification of a recipe found on Kindred Cocktails, which describes the cocktail as:

Big, herbaceous, and slightly smokey sipper for a dark night.

The goal of the scotch rinse is to provide a smoky smell rather than a smoky taste, so feel free to substitute a mezcal (or use a dropper if you're feeling lazy.)

This is a great cocktail to try substituting out bitters, as well -- adding mole bitters adds a fun new dimension to the heaviness.
